“Hair Fall” – two words that are not less than any nightmare to anyone who has faced it!!!

Falling of a few strands (~100) per day is normal; however, if we are losing more than 100 strands a day, then it becomes a matter of concern. Although hair fall is a common problem, but surprising is the fact that most of us don’t know either the reasons for hair fall or common herbal/natural remedies that can prevent hair fall completely.

Common causes of hair fall

The reason for hair fall could be different for each one of us, because according to Ayurveda, this completely depends on our body type and our habits. Our hair types are directly related to body type and is systematically classified into three categories; Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. As per Ayurveda, hair is a by-product of bone formation, i.e. it is made up of same tissues that form our bones. Any problem with tissue metabolism, which depends on our pitta (digestive fire), can affect the health of our hair.

Although could be multiple reasons for hair fall, such as modern lifestyles, hormonal imbalance, thyroid, nutrition, stress, old age, medications, use of blow dryers, harsh dyes, chemical shampoos etc. The major reasons for hair fall are:

  1. Imbalance in Vatta dosha (responsible for food movement through empty spaces of the body). Any obstruction in flow of nutrients to hair cells could lead to dry scalp, hair, split ends, and weak strands leading to hair loss.
  2. Excess of pitta dosha (digestive fire) in our bodies. Pitta governs our metabolism and digestion. A balanced Pitta leads to a healthy body and mind. Pitta dosha is aggravated by climate changes, excessive intake of spicy, salty, sour food, hot food or drinks, and smoking.

 

In order to avoid hair-fall completely from roots, you would first need to identify your habits that aggravate vatta or pitta dosha in you. Once you identify the reasons of imbalance, it becomes easier to correct it.

Method 1:

  1. Boil the dried Indian gooseberries in coconut oil till the oil turns black.
  2. Wait for it to cool, and then massage your scalp with this oil.
  3. Leave it on for about 20 minutes, and then shampoo as usual.

Method 2:

  1. Mix coconut oil and Indian gooseberry oil in equal parts.
  2. Add a few drops of lemon juice.
  3. Once a week, apply this mixture thoroughly on the scalp.
  4. Rinse off with water to fight hair loss.

Dosage: These can be followed this twice a week.

  1. Aloe Vera Aloe Vera is beneficial because:
  • It is an excellent ingredient for boosting scalp health, curbing hair fall, and promoting hair growth.
  • It contains something called proteolysis enzymes which repairs dead skin cells on the scalp.

  1. Soak two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in water overnight.
  2. Make it into a paste in the morning.
  3. Blend this mixture with a little water to add some consistency.
  4. Add four tablespoons of curd one egg white.
  5. Apply this on your hair and scalp.
  6. Leave in for half an hour.
  7. Wash off thoroughly with water.

Method 2

  1. Fry fenugreek seeds in coconut oil.
  2. Cooling and strain the preparation.
  3. Apply the mixture in small amounts on the scalp by rubbing gently at the roots of your hair.

Dosage: You can apply this once or twice a month.

  1. Castor Oil (Arandi Tel): Castor Oil is beneficial because:
  • Castor Oil and Coconut oil both are highly nourishing for the hairs and due to their molecular structure, they are easily absorbed into the scalp and hairs.
  • Applying castor oil directly onto the bald patches on your head can also be very effective to boost new hair growth.

  • Mix castor oil and extra virgin coconut oil.
  • Blend the Oil’s properly and heat them in an oil bath for 2 minutes.
  • Massage that hot oil mixture onto your scalp and hair in a gentle circulation motion.

Dosage: Twice in a week.
